Young Business Analysts (YBA)
1. Who we are
Young Business Analysts (YBA) is an informal, volunteer-led professional community supporting early-career and emerging Business Analysts globally. We are not currently a registered company or charity. YBA is managed by volunteers.
For the purposes of data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018), YBA acts as the data controller of the personal data you provide to us. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can contact us at hello@youngbusinessanalysts.org.
2. Who can join
YBA is intended for individuals under the age of 35, including those still at school or university.
3. What personal data we collect
A. General members (free joiners)
Membership currently takes the form of joining our LinkedIn group. When you request to join, we collect:
- Full name
- LinkedIn profile
- Any information visible on your LinkedIn profile or provided in your join request (such as job title, employer, or current role). This data is collected and processed via LinkedIn, and your use of LinkedIn is also subject to LinkedIn’s own privacy policy.
We do not separately collect demographic data as part of membership registration.
B. Ambassadors / volunteers
If you join as a volunteer (e.g. Ambassador), we collect this information via a Google Form:
- Full name
- Email address
- Job title
- Employer (where applicable, not all Ambassadors are employed, some may be in full-time education)
This additional information allows us to coordinate activities, represent YBA externally, and manage volunteer responsibilities.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use your information to:
- Confirm and manage your membership
- Send newsletters
- Share event invitations
- Share professional opportunities
- Coordinate volunteer activity (for ambassadors)
- Manage community communications
- Organise and promote events
- Respond to enquiries
We will not sell your data. We will not share your personal data with sponsors, partners, or employers without your explicit consent. We may share anonymised or aggregated information (e.g. “we have 2,000 members globally”).
5. Legal basis for processing
We process your personal data on the basis of:
- Consent – when you sign up to join YBA or volunteer
- Legitimate interests – to operate and grow a professional community in a proportionate way
You may withdraw your consent at any time.
6. Communications and opting out
You may unsubscribe from newsletters at any time using the unsubscribe link provided in emails or by contacting us directly. If you request to leave YBA, we will delete your personal data (unless we are legally required to retain it).
7. Events, recordings and photography
YBA may:
- Record webinars
- Take photographs at in-person events
- Publish event photos or recordings on LinkedIn or on our website
We will make reasonable efforts to notify attendees when recording or photography is taking place. If you do not wish to appear in photographs or recordings, you may inform the event organiser. Where practical, we will respect requests for removal of identifiable images.
8. Cookies and analytics
Our website may use:
- Basic cookies
- Analytics tools to understand website usage
These tools collect anonymised usage data and do not identify individual members directly. Where required, you will be given the option to accept or manage cookies.
9. How we store your data
We store Ambassador data collected via Google Forms using secure cloud-based systems, including Google Drive and associated Google services. Member data collected via our LinkedIn group is stored and processed within LinkedIn’s own platform, in line with LinkedIn’s privacy policy.
As YBA operates globally, data may be stored outside the UK. We rely on service providers that use recognised security standards. Access to member data is limited to authorised YBA volunteers who require it for community management purposes.
10. Data retention
We retain your data while you are an active member of YBA. If you inform us that you no longer wish to be part of the community, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable timeframe.
11. Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to processing
- Withdraw consent
You can exercise these rights by contacting us at hello@youngbusinessanalysts.org.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The most recent version will always be published on our website.
